Recently Bio Design was nominated for the Site of the Day award on prestigious web design award site Awwwards. The site aims to promote the best designers and agencies in the world. Their panel of judges includes some of the very best and brightest designers working today. Bio is proud to have been nominated.

Bio was nominated for The Polar Bear Cam, a site which opens a window into the lives of polar bears with live HD streaming video from the tundra.

The slick design features  a 3D rendered topographic landscape including a 3D rendered Tundra Buggy that follows you down the page and even a helicopter that flies overhead.

As a website designer inundated with emails, phone calls, proposals, estimates, it all starts to become a big stressful mess and confusion. Managing all those tasks and making sure nothing slips between that cracks can be a challenge. As my company continues to grow the number of projects we are working on at one time starts to get a bit overwhelming and that is where this fantastic GTD (Getting Things Done ) App comes a long and saves the day.

The Hit List a simple, fun and intuitive Mac app (still in Beta) has taken all the confusion out of multi-tasking. I enter in my daily, weekly or monthly tasks, organize them into folders and The Hit List keeps track of what items are coming up due and which items are re-occuring. The cool thing about The Hit List is its keyboard shortcut features which stream lines the task-entering process. I had the amazing pleasure of designing Maiko’s debut album Sweet Vibration for her cd release concert in November of 2009. She had just finished recording and mastering her album over the summer but hadn’t finalized her cd artwork yet which was the only thing holding her back from her launch. After listening to her album over the summer I started to get a concept direction and a feeling of the type of look she was going for. Maiko has a real classic soul sound reminiscent of Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight and I wanted to convey that classic retro 30’s era jazz look and feel, that kind of ‘Golden Era’ of music when woman were just becoming independent in the music industry. With deep rich brown’s and metallic gold inflections, I was able to create a very simple, modest but refined album cover and CD to create a design that was reflective of Maiko’s sound and soul.

It was a great experience working on my first album and a great pleasure to work with Maiko. She has a real feel for creative design and color which made the collaborative effort and real joy and I am thankful that she was happy with the results. Maiko Watson a talented R&B music artist from Winnipeg released her debut album Sweet Vibration November 2009 in Toronto @ The Rivoli.

The video was created for Studio of Wendy J for a property assessment game show quiz that was presented on large 40″ flat screen LCD’s at the convention centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Studio of Wendy J wanted to create a fun, colorful and retro look for the game show video teaser.

This video was shot at Ian McCauslands indoor photography studio on a green screen. Background elements and graphics were composited in post video production. The video was then uploaded to the Misericordia Charity Golf Classic website.

A video shoot for our client Church of the Rock. A teaser video was created for a young adult retreat weekend to help promote the event and attract attention. Bio Design Works wrote and directed the video. Footage was shot at the Exchange District downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba. Post video production and audio was produced / rendered by the Bio Design Works team.

Bio Design Works is a winner in the 2007 Summit Creative Awards® competition. Among the thousands of submissions from twenty-three countries, our creative scored among the very best. Receiving a ’silver’ award in the Travel/Tourism/Nature website category was NaturalExposures.com a stock wild life photography website. If you are a resident of Winnipeg, own a Apple Computer than you may or may not know about this FANTASTIC Mac repair shop called MacHelper. I was in a real bind last week when my Dual G5 started unexpectadley going to sleep while I was working to find out later that something seriously wrong was going on inside my machine. I called up MacHelper and was greeted by a friendly and confident voice, Darren one of MacHelpers top Repair Technicians was very helpful right from the getgo offering me assitance immediately in an attempt to diagnosis the problem. Because my computer is my bread and butter I could not afford to be down without a means to work and Darren reassured me that he would be able to look at it right away and understood right away how important it was that I get the computer back. Returning home from MacHelper I was happy to find that I was receiving progress reports from Darren either by phone or email keeping me up to date on the status of my computer which was really reassuring to know that he was actually working on it. The next morning at 10 a.m I received a phone call from Darren informing that my computer was good to go and that I could come and pick it up. While at MacHelper Darren continued to offer me advice and recommendations to keep my G5 in tip top shape and his fee was very reasonable and I had know problem paying for his amazing customer service. So if you have Mac and need it repaired MacHelper is the place to go I recommend it 100%.
